BUTTERFLIES LIVE! 2009

Walk through hundreds of exotic tropical butterflies in free-flight in the North Wing of the Conservatory! Throughout the course of the exhibit we'll feature more than 24 species -- providing a rare chance to admire these colorful and showy beauties up-close and to learn more about their fascinating lives. Watch as the butterflies feed on nectar plants and fruit in the exhibit. 

TIPS FOR PLANNING YOUR VISIT

• TO SEE BUTTERFLIES IN FLIGHT: Butterflies tend to be most active on sunny days and in the morning and early afternoon. 
• TO SEE BUTTERFLIES RESTING: Butterflies tend to "roost" more on cloudy days and in late afternoon. You may have to look carefully to spot them hanging on the undersides of leaves with wings folded, but it is a great opportunity for up-close viewing. 
  

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT STROLLERS AND LARGE BAGS
The Butterflies LIVE! exhibit has a special entrance to insure butterflies do not escape. Due to space constraints with this entrance area, strollers are not allowed in the butterfly display. Please be prepared to leave strollers in the designated area before entering the Conservatory. Wheelchairs and equipment required for special needs will be accommodated with the assistance of staff and volunteers.

Also, as a precaution against butterflies escaping and due to space constraints, backpacks and open bags are not allowed. Please be prepared to leave these items in the designated area before entering the Conservatory. Since items are left at the owner's risk, we suggest keeping any valuable items on your person or locked in your vehicle.

All-American Celebration: Butterflies are Free! Saturday, July 4, 2009

Free Garden admission for all on this day only!!! Guests are invited to wear red, white and blue and bring wagons and strollers to decorate for a “parade” from the Visitors Center to the Children’s Garden – where they can enjoy music, WaterPlay and fun activities. Butterflies LIVE! continues; watch tropical butterflies in the North Wing of the Conservatory.
