In just a few short weeks, we will be hosting internationally known landscape architects here at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden for the Gillette Forum.  Timeless Design in a Sustainable World: The Charles Gillette Forum,  will feature Thomas Woltz, ASLA, principal at Nelson Byrd Woltz, in Charlottesville and Douglas Reed, FASLA, principal, Reed Hiderbrand Associates, of Watertown, Mass.

Douglas Reed of Reed Hilderbrand, was  just featured in this month’s (September/October 2009) Garden Design magazine as a Green Award winner for  incorporating sustainable design, along with beauty. They were only one of three firms in the nation honored with a Green Design Award for low-impact design.

How did he do it? Try incorporating 1,500 gallons of compost tea, and a hundred yards of green waste! When Reed comes to Lewis Ginter, he’ll talk about how he maid 56 acres of sustainable gardens, meadows, prairies and knolls while incorporating the owners desire for fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers. Plus he’ll tell home gardeners how they can replicate similar designs in their own yard on a smaller scale.

If you haven’t registered yet, go ahead and do it now. The price increases on October 15th, and this is an event you certainly won’t want to miss!
