This summer my family was inspired by Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s butterfly exhibit to take an extra step with the caterpillars who visit my herb garden this year. We decided to remove them from the garden at the point they were large enough to pupate and protect them during this delicate time.

According to Joyful Butterfly only 1 out of 100 caterpillars reach adulthood. We hope that our work has contributed to sustaining a population that faces trials from humans at every corner — from global warming to pesticide use. It may be a very little help, but when the wing of a butterfly beats here it may be felt as a hurricane around the globe.
