Butterflies and bikes are two great reasons to visit the garden during September. But what about butterflies ON bikes? That’s right! We have set up tiny bikes in the Butterflies LIVE! exhibit to celebrate the highly anticipated 2015 UCI Road World Championships in Richmond. The butterflies are loving it! We also have tons of other great UCI Worlds bike-related events going on in the Garden during the race, including a Fan Zone for the Men’s and Women’s Team Time Trials on Sunday, September 20th. The butterfly bikes will remain in the exhibit until the end of the end of September. A special thank you to the Garden Shop for letting us use these bikes and to the Butterfly Curators who helped me take these fun photos!

Hilaire Ashworth is an Assistant Butterfly Curator in the Butterflies LIVE! exhibit. Here are a few more facts about her: Q: If you were a butterfly, which one would you be? A: Bat Wing (Atrophaneura semperi)! I love the vibrant red against the black and white wings. Q: What do you do in your spare time? A: I spend most of my spare time with my adopted street cat and organic gardening. However, I love rock climbing, hiking, and spending as much time outdoors as I possibly can.
