Backyard Beekeeping for Beginners

Learn the basics of beekeeping by learning the common tasks that define the rhythm of the beekeeper’s year.  Assistance in ordering equipment and bees,  a workshop to assemble your hive with expert beekeeper help and hands-on instruction are all included.

Beekeeping for BeginnersThis class takes place over 4 sessions.  Topics covered during each session are:

  • Basic honey bee terminology, ordering equipment and bees:  February 26
  • Bee hive biology, products from the hive:  March 12
  • Locating your apiary: March 26
  • Frame by frame: what to look for in the hive / Installing bees (nucs and packages: April 9

Hive assembly workshop March 25 or 27

GES: HL, 12, elective*

*This class offers 12 hours of elective credit toward the Garden Education Series: Gardening and Garden Design Certificate.
