Landscape for Life
April 28, May 1, 3, 8, 10, 2014, Monday and Thursdays 6:30 - 8:30 pm, Saturdays, 9 am - 12 pm
Learn how to work within the natural order of the land to create a home landscape that supports water conservation, minimizes the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides—and is cost effective and easily-maintained. Become informed about Central Virginia soils, watersheds, climate, plants and resources in order to create a home landscape that ‘lies lightly on the land.’ Learn to evaluate and work with the natural systems in action on your own property and get a start on planning your own ‘landscape for life.’ Come away with a notebook full of ideas and guidelines. Landscape for Life™ is based on the principles of the Sustainable Sites Initiative™. The Sustainable Sites Initiative™ (SITES™) is an interdisciplinary effort by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin and the United States Botanic Garden to create voluntary national guidelines and performance benchmarks for sustainable land design, construction and maintenance practices. Major funding for the Sustainable Sites Initiative is provided by the Meadows Foundation and Landscape Structures.
5 sessions = 10 hrs. GES: HL, 10, elective. $196 / $141 for members.
