Butterflies LIVE!

Friday, May 22 - Sunday, October 11, 2009; 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Details:

Regular Garden admission

Walk through hundreds of  exotic tropical butterflies in free-flight in the North Wing of the Conservatory! Throughout the course of the exhibit we'll feature more than 24 species -- providing a rare chance to admire these colorful and showy beauties up-close and to learn more about their fascinating lives. Watch as the butterflies feed on nectar plants and fruit in the exhibit. (See some photos, above.)

TIPS FOR PLANNING YOUR VISIT

  • TO SEE BUTTERFLIES IN FLIGHT: Butterflies tend to be most active on sunny days and in the morning and early afternoon.
  • TO SEE BUTTERFLIES RESTING: Butterflies tend to "roost" more on cloudy days and in late afternoon. You may have to look carefully to spot them hanging on the undersides of leaves with wings folded, but it is a great opportunity for up-close viewing.
  • NOTE: PLEASE BE PREPARED TO LEAVE STROLLERS AND LARGE AND OPEN BAGS IN THE DESIGNATED AREA BEFORE ENTERING THE CONSERVATORY.  FOR EXPLANATION AND MORE DETAILS, PLEASE VISIT THE LINK BELOW:

Butterflies LIVE! is part of the Garden's celebration of its 25th anniversary centered around the theme of "metamorphosis."
