STORYCORPS COMING TO LEWIS GINTER BOTANICAL GARDEN

StoryCorps is coming to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden March 15, 16 and 17, 2012. The national oral history project, one of the largest of its kind, records and preserves community stories and has millions of listeners through broadcasts on NPR’s Morning Edition (locally on WCVE) and the StoryCorps website: www.storycorps.org.

The visit to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is a gift from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The IMLS and the White House recently recognized Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden as one of the country’s top five museums with a National Medal. One interview from each of the medal winners will be edited and posted to the Institute for Museum and Library Services’ website.

The StoryCorps interviews at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will focus on how the Garden has impacted lives and the community.

Between February 1 – 15, 2012, the Garden invited people to share their stories, written in 500 words or less, to be considered for the interviews.
Those selected will be notified by February 22. Upon completion, each interviewee will receive a broadcast-quality CD of the interview and a copy will be archived at the Library of Congress. Those selected will also receive a free Garden Membership for one year (or renewal if already a member).

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s mission is education and its passion is bringing people and plants together to improve our community.
