Lewis Ginter Botanical GardenKim Dove,

Guest Services Director
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Kim Dove began her career at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in 2005 in the Facility Events department where she coordinated the facility rental and sales business. She quickly moved up, and in 2010 became Manager of Guest Services, overseeing the Facility Events, Admissions, Operations and Security Departments. In her latest role as Director of Guest Services, effective January 2013, Kim added the Garden Shop and Maintenance Departments to her list of responsibilities.

Kim was born in Richmond, Virginia, and is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management. While earning her degree, Kim also worked full time as an Assistant Plant Manager for Chicago Title Insurance Company.  After graduation she took a position as an Underwriter with Home Guaranty Insurance Corporation in Florida and was then promoted to Branch Manager and Northeast Regional Underwriter of their Fairfax, Virginia office. With a desire to get back to the Richmond area, she went to work in the Reinsurance Department of Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation.

A childhood of summers spent at her grandparents’ farm in New Market, Virginia, learning to cook at her grandmother’s side, had given Kim a deep appreciation for the value of home cooking, and she longed for a way to combine her lifelong passion for cooking with her newly acquired management skills.¬† The food service industry was a natural fit, and she would go on to have a 14-year career encompassing both the creative and business sides of the industry. Before moving on to Lewis Ginter, her experience included positions as the Food Service Director for Thyme Out Food Services, as a baker and catering manager for A Moveable Feast, and as a Manager for Christopher’s Runaway Gourmay. During this time, Kim also provided event and party planning services to private individuals.

Kim has a 10-year old daughter named Olivia, and she met her husband Steve, a landscape architect and community planner, several years ago while he was teaching classes at the Garden on landscape design for the University of Richmond.

Kim enjoys reading, gardening, music and entertaining, and when she has spare time loves to cook with her husband and daughter for family and friends.
