I just visited today for the first time and was delighted.
Some of the plants that I was interested in did not have labels.
Do you have plant lists for the different garden areas? I took pictures of them.
    Thank you

    • http://lewisginter.org/blog Jonah Holland

Hi Victoria. So glad you were delighted with your visit. Yes, some of the plants do not have labels. I will email you our most recent “Bright Spots” which is a document highlighting plants in bloom or of particular interest. We update it every 2 weeks, so it may help you narrow it down. Another great resource is our What’s in Bloom by Month page. All the photos here are labeled with the plant’s name, so you can match them up to your photo. Here’s the link: http://www.lewisginter.org/plan/BloomsbyMonth.php
Also, you are welcome to email me back with a particular photo and I can help you identify the plants.

So we are looking to have a small garden at Open High School that has perennial plants that are native to Virginia. Thought? What should I purchase? Can I purchase from Lewis Ginter?

    • http://lewisginter.org/blog Jonah Holland

Hi Bridget! Well your timing is right — the Fall Plant Sale is at Lewis Ginter this Friday & Saturday. We’ll have a big tent called the Bloemendaal Tent, run by Garden volunteers. They will be selling lots of cuttings from Lewis Ginter, native plants & more. They can also advise you on what to plant if you describe the area of your Garden. In addition, there will be many other vendors there offering specialty plants. One tent in particular you might want to check out is the Richmond Horticulture Society. Their offerings will also focus on Virginia native plants. Between Richmond Hort, our volunteers & Henrico Master Gardeners, there will be plenty of plant experts to offer you advice on what to buy.
Also, I bet Youth Service Volunteer (and Open High School student) Sadia Pollard can be of assistance with plant selection. Did you see the blog post we wrote about her? It was such an honor to work with her. http://www.lewisginter.org/blog/2014/08/17/a-summer-of-outdoor-adventure-courtesy-of-the-mayors-youth-academy-and-lewis-ginter-botanical-garden/
