CHILDREN'S GARDEN SUPPORT
Our new Children's Garden opened on September 24, 2005 and has been serving children and families in Richmond and beyond with a fascinating, imaginative, botanically-rich environment to encourage children of all ages to discover the wonder and complexity of the natural world. Supporting both self-directed, informal learning and more structured, organized group programs, it is a landscape of learning for all ages.

The new Children's Garden has been designed for full accessibility for individuals with disabilities, including the CWD Kids Tree House which can be "climbed" by all our visitors.

Funding for the construction of the Children's Garden was made possible through gifts of all sizes from individuals, foundations, corporations and community groups. It is now time to focus our efforts on raising operating funds and future preservation funds for this remarkable community resource.

There are four ways you can give to the Children's Garden. The first is to give a restricted Annual Fund donation, the second is to join our Circle of Friends: Friends of the Children's Garden giving club, the third is to give a gift through our Naming Opportunities program that will fund the future of the Children's Garden and the fourth is to purchase an Engraved Handprint to be placed in the Children's Garden.

PLANNED GIVING
Thanks to new federal legislation, you can afford to make significant gifts for the perpetual care of the Garden and the continuation of our educational programs. You can become a part of the tradition of the thoughtful giving that brought the Garden into being and keeps it flourishing today. At the same time, you can enjoy special tax benefits and income constructed around the planned gift you choose to make. Make a planned gift to the Garden and start reaping the benefits today. To learn more about Planned Giving at the Garden, please call the Development Department at 804-262-9887, ext. 337.

One of the easiest ways to give a planned gift is to place the Garden in your will. Below you will find some sample language that can be used for a bequest to the Garden.

(Sample language)
Unrestricted Gift: A gift that can be used where need is greatest.

I give, devise, and bequeath to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Inc. the sum of $_______* for its general purposes.

Gift for a Specific Purpose: A gift that is to be used for a specific purpose.

I give, devise, and bequeath to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Inc. the sum of $_______* to be used for [state specific purpose, program or activity].

Residuary Bequest: Leaves any remainder after all other bequests have been paid.

I give, devise, and bequeath to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Inc. _______* percent of the residue of my estate to be used for it's general purposes.

Contingency Gift: Takes effect only if a primary intention can't be met.

In the event that ____________ predeceases me, I give, devise, and bequeath his/her bequest or share to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Inc. the sum of $_______* to be used for it's general purposes.

* Rather than leaving a sum certain, you can include language that refers to a percentage of your estate or a description of the property you wish to give. Bequest provisions designated for a specific program or activity require additional language. Unless otherwise designated, all gifts given to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will be placed in the Endowment Fund for permanent investment, with the income being used to finance Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden's operations and services. If you wish for your bequest to benefit a specific area or program at the Garden, please make certain this is clearly stated. It is best to contact the Garden in advance to ensure that your wishes are properly understood.
