Due to road closures, we do not recommend driving  to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden during the UCI Road World Championships, Richmond 2015.  The main gate to the Garden will be closed to vehicular traffic Saturday, September 19 & Sunday, September 20. There will be no regular guest parking available inside the Garden on both days. Biking or walking to the UCI Roads World Championships is encouraged.

Walking:

Please cross at designated crossing areas.  These will be visible and clearly marked and course marshals, other event volunteers, and public safety personnel will be able
to direct you to the nearest pedestrian crossing points. Crossing the course will be facilitated by course marshals and police to protect pedestrians, and prevent interference with race events.  See the World’s Pedestrian Cyclist Guide for more information.

Space to park and walk or bike at your own risk is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the GRTC Glenside Park and Ride (4100 Glenside Drive), approximately 1.5 miles from the intersection of Lakeside and Hilliard.

Biking:

All bike traffic should enter the Garden through the main entrance gate. Please cross at designated crossing areas. Do not cross the race course during the race. Limited bike valet inside the Garden gate in the Fan Zone is available both Saturday and Sunday. Limited bike racks (near the Robins Visitor Center entrance) will be available at the Garden and at the Lakeside Farmers Market. Bicyclists may cross at pedestrian crossing points, but must dismount and walk their bicycles.

Shuttle:

Saturday and Sunday: A Richmond 2015 shuttle will run from the Anthem Office (2015 Staples Mill Road, near the intersection of Staples Mill and Broad) to the corner of Lakeside Avenue and Hilliard Road, near the Garden’s entrance. Sunday only: an additional shuttle will also run from City Stadium (3201 Maplewood Ave.)

Cost for parking at Anthem or City Stadium is $10 (plus service fees) and must be prepaid/reserved in advance using the “Click and Park” app. Shuttle is free. Shuttles will run at regular intervals throughout the day. Please note that cash payment will not be accepted at the lots.

Driving:

For official information on how to navigate the races, visit the Richmond 2015 website. Due to road closures is not recommended that you drive to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden to view the UCI Road World Championships.

Lakeside Avenue southbound will be closed between the Garden’s main gate and Jefferson Lakeside Country Club from 10 a.m. Friday, September 18 – midnight on Sunday, September 20. If you choose to drive here are some suggested alternate routes that may get you close, but heavy congestion will make it extremely difficult to drive to the Garden.

Saturday Road Closures:  Lakeside Avenue, (southbound lane only) between Fairway Avenue/Jefferson Lakeside Country Club and Hilliard Road, will be closed starting Friday, September 18, at 10 a.m. until approximately midnight on Sunday, September 20. Beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, all lanes of travel will be completely closed to traffic on Lakeside Avenue from Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden to the Richmond City line.

Sunday Road Closures: Lakeside Avenue, (southbound lane only) between Fairway Avenue/Jefferson Lakeside Country Club and Hilliard Road, will be closed starting Friday, September 18, at 10 a.m. until approximately midnight on Sunday, September 20. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, all lanes of travel will be completely closed to traffic on Lakeside Avenue from Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden to the Richmond City line.

Limited Parking — There is parking around the Lakeside Business District, however, these spots will fill quickly and may be affected by road closures. Space to park and walk or bike at your own risk is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the GRTC Glenside Park and Ride (4100 Glenside Drive), approximately 1.5 miles from the intersection of Lakeside and Hilliard.
