SUMMARY:Rogério Lupo Graphite Techniques for Scientific Illustration
DESCRIPTION:Beautiful artwork is created with value—the degree of light and dark in a specific subject. Working in pencil\, develop values and master seamless gradations from the lightest lights to the darkest darks without the usual graphite sheen. A simple exercise trains each student to draw incredible detail using practical rendering of textures and different colors of objects represented as shades of gray; to recognize luminosities\, reflections and contrasts; and to execute useful and fast forms to render hairs and thorns. Each participant will design a composition and begin an original work using tricks to draw viewers’ eyes to the focal point.  See below for additional details\, materials list and link to the online workbook.

DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness is the ability to have judgment-free awareness as events unfold moment by moment. Mindfulness is also something we naturally possess\, however when practiced daily or even consistently\, our ability to move mindfully is more readily available and accessible. This course is both theoretical and experiential. Students learn about and discuss the origins of mindfulness practices; engage in the natural and traditional movements supporting the mind-body component of mindfulness; and be supported in the development of their personal mindfulness practice as a tool for stress management and self-awareness.

DESCRIPTION:Included with Regular Garden Admission\, free for Garden Members \nCelebrate the launch of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s brand new Seed Library with a day of seed workshops and activities centered on saving and growing seeds. What’s a Seed Library? It’s a circulating collection of seeds that people can borrow\, plant\, harvest\, save\, and return to the library! Access to the seed library program is free to all Garden visitors\, with regular Garden admission \nStart your morning with “Seed Saving 101” for a hands-on introduction to seed saving.  Once you’re feeling seed savvy\, participate in a seed swap and learn how to use the Seed Library\, and then learn the basics of starting seeds indoors with the afternoon’s “Ready\, Set\, Grow!” workshop. Finally\, Ira Wallace will discuss the value of seed saving as a practice rooted in social\, economic\, and environmental justice.
