SUMMARY:Into the Wild: Personal Journeys in Nature Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:No matter how much or how little time we spend outdoors\, we have an intrinsic connection to nature. The natural world informs our sense of place and identity\, helping forge our connection with ourselves and the world. Join us for a morning of exploring the myriad ways nature intersects with our personal lives. We will write memories\, stories\, dreams\, and impressions in a nonjudgmental writing circle\, using the beautiful gardens of Lewis Ginter for inspiration. Please bring a journal and something to write with. This workshop is for adults age 18 and older. \nOur Garden continues to follow CDC recommendations and state guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19. Properly worn masks are required for indoor class participants regardless of vaccination status. Non-vaccinated participants are also required to wear masks when outdoors and unable to maintain 6 feet of social distancing. The Garden reserves the right to implement additional safety measures. Any updates will be communicated prior to class\, if possible.

SUMMARY:Lightning in a Bottle: Tracing the History of Soft Drinks From the Apothecary's Cabinet to Modern Day Cola Wars
DESCRIPTION:In recent years the global market size of the soft drink industry has topped 400 billion dollars\, resulting in a bottle of Coca-Cola being more accessible than drinkable water in some countries. Since ancient times humans have been experimenting to improve the taste\, appearance\, safety\, and benefits of water. The result has been thousands of new beverages\, some that enjoyed a brief moment en vogue\, while others rose and remain in a position of global dominance. \nIn this webinar\, Justin Fornal covers some of history’s most beloved\, maligned and unusual soft drinks. He explores their plant connections and traces popular everyday beverages back to their mysterious origins in ancient medicine. \nOnline webinar conducted via Zoom.   \nThis webinar is cancelled.

SUMMARY:WORKS OF LOUISE B. COCHRANE
DESCRIPTION:Included with regular Garden admission\, free for members \nLouise B. Cochrane Art Exhibition & Sale\nMarch 4 – April 10\, 2022 \nLouise and Harwood Cochrane were benefactors of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden for thirty years. An excerpt from the book Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden: 25 Years and Growing tells the story: \nThroughout her life\, Louise B. Cochrane has expressed her admiration for roses through her paintings and personal gardens. In 2007\, this “Lover of\nRoses” decided that the Richmond community would benefit from an expansion and reconfiguration of the Rose Garden and Belvedere that she originally funded in 2001. Her gift to the Garden transformed that dream into reality – now and for years to come thousands will delight in the roses due to Mrs. Cochrane’s benevolence. \nThis is a unique opportunity to own a Louise Cochrane original painting. All proceeds will benefit Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.

SUMMARY:More Alcohol Inks
DESCRIPTION:Alcohol inks are a relatively new fascination of painters and crafters. A vibrant\, fast drying medium they are used to paint on non-porous surfaces such as glass\, tile\, or metal. The possibilities for experimentation are limitless. Experience the almost instant magic of these inks on tile. Using florals as inspiration\, participants will create colorful\, abstracted tiles. Painting expertise or even any experience at all is not necessary. Designed to be a creative adventure\, this class is for everyone. If you took this class last year\, consider joining this one: techniques will be reviewed but subject matter will be different\, and\, of course\, no two tiles are ever the same! All materials are supplied and completed tiles will be yours to take.
