Rose Fest

Saturday, October 2 and Sunday, October 3, 2010; Noon - 3:00 p.m.

Details:

Regular Garden admission; free admission for Garden Members.

This is your chance to "stop and smell the roses!"

The Rose Garden will be in full bloom with more than 1,800 fragrant roses. Wander along gently curving pathways for a sensual feast of color, fragrance and beauty. Chat with Garden staff and volunteers about the roses and learn more about their care. Wine-tasting, dining, dancing and live opera are all part of this special weekend's afternoon activities (please see schedule below). Bring the entire family! Children love to play on the Terrace Lawn (and in the nearby Children's Garden); you may want to bring a blanket to spread out, sit back and relax. The Glorious Glass sculpture exhibit can also be seen throughout the Garden.

As a special treat, Ikebana of Richmond will exhibit Roses are Red -- floral displays throughout the Garden -- representing all four schools of Ikebana (Japanese art of floral design).

Saturday, Noon - 3 p.m. Learn to Tango! Watch expert dancers from the Dance Space and try some new moves yourself!

Sunday, Noon - 3 p.m. Opera & Roses: The Virginia Opera performs selections. 

DINING IN THE ROSE GARDEN, TEA HOUSE & CAFE

In the Rose Garden, Noon - 3 p.m.: on this special weekend only, you can "wine and dine" on the Terrace Lawn adjacent to the Rose Garden. (Cash & credit card accepted.) Here you can enjoy: 

• Wine-tasting featuring French wines: Rose', Chenin Blanc & Cabernet
• Tasty sandwiches, salads and more: chicken salad croissants, veggie wraps, cheese & fruit plates, vintner salad, hummus plates & hot dogs
• Beverages including wine splits, beer, soft drinks & bottle water, plus season favorite apple cider
• An assortment of yummy desserts

Tea House overlooking the gardens; 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. See menu & pricing; special wines featured; Sunday will include additional brunch items.
