Strategic public relations and marketing have helped propel Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden to a top garden tourism destination and international recognition.
Beth Monroe has led public relations and marketing efforts since 1998 as Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden has grown and reached out to engage and attract audiences. She is committed to the Garden’s mission of education and passion for connecting people and plants to improve communities. The community recently showed its appreciation by voting Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden one of the top botanical gardens in the country in USA Today’s 10Best Public Gardens contest.
Beth has presented on the topic of garden tourism at the American Public Garden Association and Garden Tourism Conferences. She spearheads the Richmond Garden Trail, a tourism initiative promoting gardens in Richmond, Va. In this role, she works with multiple partners to create a ready-made itinerary of garden-related sites and experiences which may be viewed at richmondgardentrail.org.
Beth’s educational background includes a bachelor of arts in communication from James Madison University and a master of science in corporate and professional communication from Radford University. Her graduate studies included a semester abroad in Salzburg, Austria, enabling her to travel and do thesis research in Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Beth is the 2019 winner of the Thomas Jefferson Award for Excellence recognizing her extraordinary achievement as a seasoned public relations practitioner. The award is the Public Relations Society of America Richmond chapter’s highest honor. She has her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) and is part of Leadership Metro Richmond’s Leadership Quest Class of 2020.
Beth’s other interests include volunteering with ReEstablish Richmond, teaching ESL, and taking botanical illustration classes at the Garden.
