BUTTERFLIES LIVE! EXHIBIT WAS TEMPORARILY CLOSED; NOW RE-OPENED

The Butterflies LIVE! exhibit was temporarily closed for repair as the result of a severe storm on June 16, 2016. High winds caused damage to a section at the top of the North Wing of the Conservatory, the butterfly exhibit location. A piece of metal was bent, causing a small gap between the frame and glass panes.

Garden staff were able to contain and safely move the butterflies to a connector wing adjacent to the exhibit. To provide the best possible conditions for the butterflies, they were sent to the Smithsonian Institution’s  National Museum of Natural History where they will live out their lifespans in the live butterfly exhibit there.
