Wick Lake provides a revitalized habitat for the Garden. It is designed for stormwater management and serves as a water source needed for the care of plants throughout the Garden. With a forebay, wet pond cell and irrigation cell, water runoff is cleansed before being reused across the property.
- Underground pipes carry rainwater into the Lake.
- In the Forebay, large sediment sinks to the bottom and water flows over the wall.
- The Wet Pond Cell allows finer sediment to settle out.
- Aquatic Plants use their roots to filter out extra nutrients.
- The Central Spillway allows water to flow into the irrigation cell when the wet pond cell is full.
- The Irrigation Cell holds clean water for plants in the Garden.
- Underwater fountains reduce algae growth.
