Middle School Field Trips

We are COMPLETELY BOOKED for the 2023-24 school year and will begin accepting reservations for summer self-guided Independent Garden Exploration mid-April.

Please note, the Garden will not have Butterflies LIVE! in 2024 or 2025. This is due to the Garden’s THRIVE: Growing the Garden’s Future Expansion of the Conservatory and grounds, which will result in a year-round butterfly house and additional displays and gardens. We look forward to bringing you these wonderful improvements.

PROGRAM OFFERINGS

Urban Forestry

Availability: Nov. & Apr. – May

Trees provide countless benefits to our planet. They filter air pollutants, act as carbon sinks, absorb stormwater, prevent soil erosion, and reduce energy costs. Students will learn how trees perform these functions by collecting data about a tree’s condition, size, and species. In the process, they will use tools including checklists, measuring tapes, and dichotomous keys.

Wetlands are an important component of a watershed system because they cleanse the water that passes through them. Plants are crucial to this process. Students will investigate how a wetland ecosystem works by testing water quality using simple tools and water chemistry test kits.  After observing wetland plants, students will collect data and be inspired to contemplate ways to help keep our wetlands healthy and pollution-free.
