BUTTERFLY PINNING
FOR BEGINNERS
Come learn the science of insect pinning and the art of butterfly shadowbox design with Butterflies LIVE! Coordinator, Clara Aus! In the first session of this two-part class, Clara will lead participants through entomological butterfly pinning techniques and share a foundation of basic butterfly knowledge. Each participant will receive 3 butterfly specimens from M&T Bank Butterflies LIVE! to use for their final project, as well as all the tools and materials necessary for insect pinning. After one week of allowing the specimens to dry, participants will return for the second session where they will artistically arrange an 8″x 8″ shadowbox of their butterfly specimens. Upon completion of the project, Clara will lead participants in a guided tour of M&T Bank Butterflies LIVE! and provide helpful resources for butterfly gardening, entomological pinning and butterfly/caterpillar identification.
