Form and Texture with Graphite
Part 1
This class delves deeply into using graphite to accurately depict simple botanical subjects using fruits and vegetables. The course begins with an in-depth understanding of how light affects different forms in perspective including: highlights, midtones and shadow areas, reflected highlights, and cast shadows. Using a formulaic scientific light source in conjunction with a 3-dimensional armature drawing, artists understand concave and convex shapes and how it applies to different surfaces. An armature drawing is beneficial in understanding the surface terrain of each subject. Students complete a 3 part series of drawings; line, armature, and full tonal graphite drawing.
