GARDEN TO GLASS:
Virginia wine: 400 years young and world-class

Join Richard Leahy, author of Beyond Jefferson’s Vines, the definitive book on Virginia wine, as he highlights his book and demonstrates with a curated tasting the diversity and quality of today’s Virginia wine. He’ll highlight milestones in Virginia wine history, explain the many natural challenges of viticulture in this climate and review the most popular wine grapes grown in the state. He’ll also explore the ways that Virginia wines demonstrate the state’s terroir, highlight some unique styles of Virginia wine, and glimpse into the future based on current trends. Participants will sample five of Richard’s recommended Virginia wines, expertly paired with five delicious Southern-inspired tapas. Upon registration, participants can pre-purchase copies of Beyond Jefferson’s Vines during class registration or purchase a copy at the event which Richard will be available to sign following the presentation.

Beyond Jefferson's Vines by Richard Leahy at Virginia Wine classThis is an in-person, outdoor class.  Participants can pre-purchase a copy of Beyond Jefferson’s Vines by Richard Leahy for $20.85 ($19.99 + 4.3% sales tax) during class registration or purchase one at the event which he will be available to sign following the presentation.

Our Garden continues to follow CDC recommendations and state guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19. Properly worn masks are required for indoor class participants regardless of vaccination status. Non-vaccinated participants are also required to wear masks when outdoors and unable to maintain 6 feet of social distancing. The Garden reserves the right to implement additional safety measures. Any updates will be communicated prior to class, if possible.

Fee includes presentation, wine tasting and small plate pairings.

Participants 21 and older only

In case of inclement weather, the class will be held indoors.

 

About the InstructorRichard Leahy Virginia Wine class

Richard Leahy is an author and wine professional based in Charlottesville, Virginia and coordinates the conference program for the Eastern Winery Exposition, the largest wine industry trade show east of the Pacific states. He has been writing about wines of Virginia and the East since 1986, and in May 2012 his book Beyond Jefferson’s Vines, the definitive book on Virginia wine, was published to high praise from reviewers and is available on Amazon.com in a revised third edition. Richard is a member of the American Wine Society and the Circle of Wine Writers, and also has a website and blog focused on wines of the East at www.richardleahy.com/blog. He was the keynote speaker at the 25th anniversary of Gray Ghost Vineyards in 7/19, and has presented seminars on wines of Virginia and eastern North America at the Society of Wine Educators (8/19) and the American Wine Society (11/17 and 11/16).
