EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (INTERIM)

Kim earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Virginia Commonwealth University. After gaining extensive experience in the insurance industry and food management professions, she joined Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in 2005 as Facility Events Assistant Coordinator.  Kim has served in increasingly responsible positions for 15 years, including Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2018, and effective June 15, 2020, Executive Director.

Kim is an expert in hospitality, organizational leadership and staff development. She possesses a true passion for people and logistics, embracing the Garden’s core value of hospitality as we work to welcome visitors, members, volunteers and staff from Richmond’s diverse communities.

As COO, Kim oversaw the Garden’s enterprise revenue centers (Admissions, Facility Events and the Garden Shop,) support departments (IT, Operations, Maintenance and Security) and the Garden’s food service contractor, Meriwether Godsey, Inc. As such, she was responsible for nurturing a supportive and engaging work environment for staff and volunteers.

As Executive Director, Kim is able to apply her passion and expertise to the entire Garden and its mission-related activity at a time of transition: transition for our communities during dual public health and financial crises; and transition for the Garden as the Board of Directors resumes its search for the next President/CEO, delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Kim was the unanimous and acclaimed choice of the Board of Directors for the promotion, Kim’s fifth at the Garden. Kim’s intelligence, energy, composure, courage, past accomplishments and future promise, are well matched to this time of leadership transition, global pandemic, the safe and measured re-opening of the Garden, and the creation of a new Garden in a completely new world where challenges are many and the need for people of character never higher.
