The moth portraits depict moths native to central Virginia. I have seen each of them at my home near Charlottesville. I paint them large. It is intimate. Most people only see these night creatures as a flutter in headlights or at the porch light. There are at least ten times more moths than butterflies. Moths are critical players in the eco system, therefore need to be protected and appreciated. Loss of habitat, climate change, and pollution are all factors that impact our flying insects. Learn about them and love them. In the Mid-Atlantic region there are approximately 3,000 different species of moths. Over 15 years I have seen and identified around 1,000 just at my place. I will never run out of subjects. A quote from Mary Oliver states my purpose.
