ART IN BLOOM:
ART NOUVEAU FLORAL DESIGN

Discover the elegance and beauty of the Art Nouveau movement through floral design. Inspired by the period’s graceful, flowing lines and celebration of nature, participants will explore how artists and designers incorporated the organic forms of flowers, vines, and garden plants into their work.

This class also honors Grace Arents (1848 – 1926), whose love of gardening and vision helped shape the legacy of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Arents bequeathed her property to become a botanical garden in memory of her uncle, Lewis Ginter. As we commemorate the centennial of her passing, we celebrate her passion for horticulture through beautiful floral arrangements created from both garden and florist-grown materials.

Following a brief lecture and discussion on the history and defining characteristics of Art Nouveau, participants will design a floral arrangement featuring soft, pastel blooms and natural, flowing forms that reflect the style’s distinctive aesthetic while paying tribute to Grace Arents’s enduring appreciation for gardens and floral beauty. No prior floral design experience is required.
