BEYOND THE HORIZONS:
ACCESSIBLE ABSTRACTION

Welcome to Beyond the Horizon: Accessible Abstractions. This exhibition showcases abstract paintings exploring creative expression through an otherworldly lens.

The gallery features artwork by Sheltering Arms Club Rec members and local Opening Minds through Art (OMA) participants. Developed by Art for the Journey and Sheltering Arms Community Programs, the Elevating Lives through Art (ELA) program adapts the evidence-based OMA dementia model to also serve individuals with physical disabilities, developmental and cognitive disabilities, as well as traumatic brain injuries.

Using adaptive techniques, these programs eliminate barriers to demonstrate that artistic expression is universal, highlighting the powerful intersection of art, health, and accessibility.

We hope you enjoy these beautiful works of art. These pieces have been created by participants of the Sheltering Arms Club Rec Program.

Club Rec is a day recreation program for adults with a disability or physical limitation who can benefit from supervised social, recreational, and wellness activities. Through an integrated approach, the program promotes healthy living and helps individuals adapt to life after illness or injury, with the goal of enhancing their quality of life.

The artists presenting their work today have faced challenges related to stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy. Through their artwork, they share their creative vision and celebrate life beyond limits.
