Successful vegetables start with the soil! Find out how to build your soil for vegetable gardening in this virtual class. Learn the characteristics of best soil types for vegetables and how to analyze your own soils, including amendment techniques, drainage and more. Karin also touches on the difference between soils for in ground planting and raised bed planting.

About the instructor

Karin Stretchko is an Agriculture Specialist at J. Sargent Reynolds Community College where she oversees the display gardens at the Goochland campus and the plant propagation program as well as teaching in the horticulture program. She has a Master of Science degree from Virginia Tech, specializing in soil science. She previously was the Conservatory Horticulturist at the Garden and instituted the Garden’s water testing program.
