Storytime
Librarian Kat Spears reads a few of her favorite stories outside in the Garden each Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. Children can also participate in a craft or hands-on activity (weather permitting).

Love, the Garden

“Love, the Garden” is a season when we celebrate our love of the Garden through a variety of exhibits, events and programming.

Bonsai Take Flight: Ancient Traditions Come Alive
Jan. 29-Feb. 26, 2023
Experience the art of bonsai and let your imagination take flight through the ancient traditions of kites with bonsai.

Lover’s Lane
January 30 – March 31
Knitorious M.E.G. brings their Richmond city yarn bombing to the Garden during the season of Love, the Garden. Experience this street artist’s work in nature as they enchant the Flagler Garden with their “Lovers Lane” installation.

Staff Art Show
Jan. 30-March 31, 2023
Come to the Garden and see our talented staff’s creations! During this time of the year, we want to showcase our Garden Team! Enjoy the varied artwork, medium, and expressions, get to know us better, and connect with us through ART in our Ginter Gallery II.

CVNLA Winter Symposium & Short Course
Feb. 8 & 9
This annual symposium features speakers on landscape and garden design topics. This year’s theme is “Stewarding the Land, Healing Ourselves.”

The Great Backyard Bird Count
Feb. 17-20
This global community science project helps the general public and scientists learn more about the year-to-year bird populations and distributions.

Garden Member Appreciation Month
We have special things planned for our Garden members.

Virginia Orchid Society Show and Sale
March 3-5
Friday, March 3, 1 – 5 p.m.
Saturday, March 4, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday, March 5, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Free admission to the sale and lectures in the Kelly Education Center, show included with regular admission
Annual orchid show and exhibit hosted by the Virginia Orchid Society for the benefit of the general public as well as local and regional members of affiliated clubs of the American Orchid Society.

Butterflies LIVE!

Experience hundreds of tropical butterflies inside the North Wing of the Conservatory.  

Free Admission on Earth Day
Saturday, April 22
FREE Garden admission on this day when we invite the community to visit the Garden and reflect on the healing power of Nature. The day honors the memory of Jonah Holland, our Garden colleague who passed away in 2022.  

Incanto
April 29-October 29 (Members-Only Preview: April 29)
Incanto is a journey through a sculptural, epic poem embraced by nature. The five monumental sculptures will explore profound concepts of identity and the higher self, the energy of ancestry, the transformational present moment, the perspective of the past, and finally, the balance between technology and the source code of our Earth.

Escape to a garden paradise in the evening with food and drink available for purchase.  

Flowers After 5
May 18-September 7
4 – 9 p.m.
Relax on summer evenings; stroll through the gardens; enjoy live music, wine and beer, dining and shopping. Garden partners with Richmond SPCA on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month and allows leashed pets (Fidos After 5). 

Fidos After 5(second and fourth Thursday nights)

4 – 9 p.m.
The Garden partners with the Richmond SPCA and leashed pets are allowed during Flowers After 5 on these special nights only (second and fourth Thursdays of each month). 

Spring PlantFest

PlantFest features vendors selling plants ranging from well-known favorites to rare exotics and other garden-related items. Presented by Garden volunteers.

KEC Exhibit Ginter Gallery II

Alfonso Perez 6 Mandalas / Crossroads Art Gallery exhibits community/local artists’ work that ties in with the Garden’s mission and/or season’s theme. Using mandalas as a way to heal, connect with ancestors. 

SEPTEMBER 

Genworth Free Community Day

Free admission all day 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. This event is sponsored by Genworth.

Fall Flair

The Garden celebrates the fall season with events and other harvest-themed activities.
