BLUEPRINTS OF NATURE:
CYANOTYPE PRINTING WITH BOTANICAL COLLECTIONS

In this immersive 2 hr workshop, participants will learn some of the history and technique of cyanotype printing—a 19th-century photographic process known for its rich blue tones—using plant materials gathered from the botanical garden. Students will interact with the garden’s collections and archival materials to create stunning botanical prints on paper and fabric. This workshop merges art, science, and garden exploration in a creative and accessible way.

Fees: Member $60, Non-Member $72

All materials are provided. No prior photography or printmaking experience required. Students should be comfortable walking short distances in the Garden.

About the instructor

Rebecca Hill (Pamunkey) is a Radford University graduate with a BS in Art who studied Museum Studies at Hampton University. She has worked for decades as a professional photographer. Rebecca works in multiple capacities for the Pamunkey tribal government and is a founding member of the Virginia Native Arts Alliance, working towards preserving Indigenous culture and art.
