About the instructor

Dea Keen is an Assistant Horticulturalist at Lewis Ginter. Having farmed for the last 15 years in the Mid-Atlantic, she has extensive experience growing in this region. Dea left the farm in 2025 to start a new journey, beginning graduate studies in Social Work. Passionate about the healing potential of horticulture, Dea seeks to one day blend mental health and gardening. When not gardening or studying, she can be found walking her two dogs, biking, or casually birding.
