The Garden hosts a mask-making activity celebrating the VMFA’s exhibit Congo Masks: Masterpieces from Central Africa. The exhibit and the activity highlight the importance of community connections.

Regular Garden admission: $13 adults; $11 seniors 55+; $8 children age 3 -12; free for children under age 3

The Garden hosts a mask-making activity celebrating the VMFA’s exhibit Congo Masks: Masterpieces from Central Africa. The exhibit and the activity highlight the importance of connections. Guests can make a mask that they feel represents their community.

In the vast and culturally diverse Congolese region of Central Africa, masks function as performance objects in rituals, ceremonies, worship, and entertainment. They represent the artisans and performers who brought them to life, as well as varied communities, belief systems, and natural resources.
