Ancarrow Slide Collection
More than 10,000 slides taken by Newton Ancarrow, self-taught botanist and photographer, of plants found along the banks of the James River in Richmond, Virginia, particularly the Belle Island area
The archives, under the leadership of a volunteer archivist, identifies, acquires, organizes and preserves materials pertaining to the Garden that have sufficient historical or information significance to warrant their long term preservation.
Descubes Botanical Art
2500 original botanical paintings of plants mainly from the Indian sub-continent. Each work is annotated with extensive botanical information. Drawn and painted by Alexandre Descubes during the period of 1875 - 1919. Search Artbase or read about the artist in "Demystifying Descubes at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden," by Maggie Southwick, published in the June 2010 issue of The Botanical Artist.
R. Eldridge Longest Collection
Mr. Longest's collection of 286 herbal and medicinal plant books are integrated into the collection and all have entries in the library's Online Catalog. The collection also includes documented slides of plants having medicinal value, chiefly from the Bryan Park area in Richmond, Virginia.
Mary Vaux Walcott Botanical Prints
225 prints of North American Wildflowers from the set of 400 printed by the Smithsonian Institution.
