Seed Selection and Starting

Get ready for spring planting in your vegetable garden. Horticulturist Heather Veneziano discusses growing vegetables in our area, with an emphasis on heirloom varieties that grow well in the Richmond area. Learn how to calculate planting and harvest times and review seed starting techniques. Seed sources are included. Heather also touches on soil amendments, plant maintenance and pest control.

About the instructor

Heather Veneziano is a passionate horticulturist and educator. She has over 15 years’ experience working in nonprofits and public gardens including Colonial Williamsburg and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Her focus is organic edible landscapes. She is currently the Youth Farm Grower at Girls for a Change where she tends to their organic garden and teaches middle school girls of color how to grow their own food and observe nature.
