Stitching Garden Memories

Denver and his grandmother Page Robinson.

When Page Robinson sent me a photo of this wall hanging via email last week, all I could think was: This is a labor of love.  In the email she said, “My grandson Denver is 2 and we love all of the blooms and butterflies.  I took a picture of him which shows his pure joy seeing the butterflies and made the memory into a wall hanging. WE ENJOY OUR MEMBERSHIP.”  ~ Page

Wow, what a nice note to get! I knew I had to share it with you all, the readers of our blog, who are our biggest fans!  My next thought was, How in the world did she get that great photo of her grandson and the Conservatory onto a quilt!?  Page explained that she actually printed the picture on her home computer printer onto canvas and then sewed it with her machine.  If you look closely you can see details of embroidered flowers and butterflies too. Amazing.

“My grandson is 2, will be 3 in August. We were at the garden earlier this spring to visit the butterflies and the picture was taken in the Conservatory as he was watching the butterflies. I made the wall hanging over the next few weeks after the visit.  We visit on a regular basis,” Page says.  Fittingly, the shirt Denver is wearing in the photo on the quilt says “I Love MY Nana!”
“We’ve been coming here since he was born. He was born in August and we brought him in September. We have a great photo of him sleeping in the Butterflies LIVE! exhibit with a butterfly on his head!”  …and she sent it to me! Check it out:

“He was raised with the butterflies. And he was raised in the Children’s Garden His first experience with sand was in the sandbox here. He likes Water Play, we brought his suit today.  He didn’t want to stick his feet in it at first but now he loves it.” Page, you made our day. We love it when we find someone who loves the Garden as much as we do!
