Orchids Galore! A Love of Living Color, Features Orchids to Dazzle the Senses

by Jonah Holland, PR & Marketing Coordinator, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Here’s just a snippet of what you’ll see when you come to Orchids Galore! at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden:

Starting on Valentine’s Day, and running ’til the end of March, you are in for a treat as we delight your senses with colors, smells and sights you just can’t find anywhere else in Richmond.   In fact, instead of bringing blooms to your love, why not bring your love to the blooms!   We’ll have living walls, cascading with orchids  — thanks to our new plant pockets sewn by Director of Horticulture Grace Chapman and Garden volunteers Mariette Norbom and Barb Sawyer.  Additional Garden staff and volunteers,  Laurel Matthew, Carol Gill and Kathy Wyatt,  helped  cut the fabric for our pockets.   We will explore the relationship between color and light with a live interpretation of a prism exploding white light into a rainbow of vibrant orchids.  Also, we’ve made copies of prints from our Reichenbachia, Imperial Edition  and matched them with like specimens in our orchid collection!  Antique-style frames will highlight some of our favorite orchid specimens, and we’ll have special activities  in the Conservatory —  each weekend including sensory experiences for all ages with themes highlighting how we turn to plants at this time of year for nourishment, comfort and to boost our mood.

RSVP  and invite your friends to Orchids Galore!
